Couples Counselling

Can Couples Counselling or Marriage Therapy Work for You?

How Couples Therapy Helps

Dealing with relationship or marriage concerns can feel overwhelming — but you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Couples counselling provides insight, clarity, communication tools, and practical support to help you reconnect, repair, and build the relationship you’ve always wanted.

At Susan Blackburn Psychology, our approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based methods.

We help you explore new ways of thinking, communicating, and behaving, while strengthening kindness, respect, appreciation, and the emotional bond between you and your partner.

Our approach focuses on what is working and what your strengths are as a couple, so that this can be used as a springboard for rebuilding trust, improving intimacy, and creating a closer connection.

Your sessions take place in a confidential, empathetic, and non-judgmental environment where you can express yourselves openly, feel heard, and work together toward the changes you want to create in your relationship.

Many couples begin to feel relief simply from having a safe, structured space to slow down, understand each other, and communicate more effectively.

We integrate Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), relationship counselling, parenting counselling, and structured communication and trust-building strategies.

Your goals — and the issues you’re facing — guide the process.

Every couple’s story is unique — and your therapy experience will be tailored to what matters most to you both. Depending on your situation, your therapy may involve shifting long-standing patterns of communication and/or behaviour, implementing healthier coping strategies and skills, and making spending quality time together one of your highest priorities.

Many couples notice significant changes by applying small, consistent adjustments between sessions that really add up over time, leaving you feeling relieved, encouraged and inspired.

Whether you’re hoping to rebuild, reconnect, strengthen your partnership, or prevent issues from taking place or becoming more of a challenge, couples therapy can be a powerful step toward a calmer, healthier, more fulfilling relationship.

A Supportive, Warm Space for Change

All sessions take place in a secure, confidential, and supportive environment where you can express yourselves openly and work together toward the future you want.
